一是女性角色整体较少，尤其是主角。因此，女星很难因为自己跟男星扮演同样的角色但收入却低于男星而拒绝邀请。

与此同时，欧美电影中女演员扮演的角色重要性通常低于男演员，露脸时间也比男演员短。

此外还有角色分配，从演员们所扮演的角色的年龄和外貌来看，女性的范围更窄。例如，女性会比男性更早地失去扮演性感角色的机会。
